Evelyn couldn't make ends meet and was struggling with debt. Her house was cold and draughty, which was affecting her health.
She came to Age UK Waltham Forest for a benefits check in the hope of a bit of extra money to help her manage, but even the advisers were surprised at what was found. Evelyn had been living off her workplace pension, but never claimed her state pension. Age UK Waltham Forest helped Evelyn to apply for her state pension and she eventually received nearly £100,000 of backdated income.
Evelyn has been able to clear her debts, replace her draughty windows and get her boiler replaced. Her house feels like a home now, and without her constant money worries she feels like a huge weight has been lifted.
