Job Description - Wellbeing Activities Worker

Job Location – Herne Bay Whitstable and surrounding villages
Job base – The Bradbury Wellbeing Centre, Reculver Road, Herne Bay 
Line Manager – Wellbeing Day Services Manager
Hours of work - 8.30am to 4.30pm 5 days per week: weekdays only 
Rate of pay - £11.70 per hour
Disclosure – Enhanced level


JOB PURPOSE: 
To lead on and take responsibility for ensuring that clients attending the Bradbury Social Opportunities Day Centre, or the Hazell Nevill Dementia Day Unit can benefit from taking part in a stimulating and fun activities program. The role will focus on taking responsibility for developing, organising and facilitating a program of activities as well as preparing activities to be delivered by Wellbeing Support Workers. The postholder will also be responsible for developing and facilitating new, activity focused groups to broaden the wellbeing activities that are available to older people in the center and other community- based venues. The role will also require the post holder to carry out all the elements involved in being a Wellbeing Support Worker in the event of sickness or absence within the team, this includes transporting clients to and from the centers in a safe and comfortable manner using our wheelchair adapted vehicles as well as assisting with personal care tasks.

Main responsibilities of The Wellbeing Activities Worker: 

  • To lead on, whilst working alongside and communicating with the Day Services Manager and other team members, to plan & deliver a creative programme of varied groups, activities, events, celebrations, and outings.
  • These activities will be for social opportunities clients and for those living with dementia.
  • Lead on consulting with clients attending the centre, relatives and the Wellbeing Day Services Manager & Senior to ensure that the activities on offer reflect client preferences and meet their needs.
  • To be responsible for working in groups and with individuals to facilitate fun, stimulating and engaging activities that support them to maintain their interests, increase their confidence, general health and wellbeing and enable access to community events or to achieve personalised aspirations.
  • Lead and set an example on how to support and encourage clients taking part in activities.
  • Be responsible for publicising & communicating a structured activities programme, ensuring that all clients have access.
  • Be responsible for ensuring all activities and events on the programme give regard to client safety, comfort & enjoyment. Group events may for example include craft classes, music, films, quizzes, bingo, reminiscence, entertainment, exercise etc…
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all activities are carried out in line with organisational health and safety policies and procedures and are fully risk assessed to ensure risks arising from the activity (COSHH, Fire Infection Control) are mitigated for those taking part.
  • Be responsible for accompanying clients on outings, ensuring adequate provision of support staff & that all safety standards are met, risk assessments undertaken & recorded particularly with regards to mobility.
  • To take responsibility for the completion of the news, activity boards and activity promotional materials alongside the Day Services Manager, Senior and Social Media worker.
  • Be responsible for providing the Social Media worker with materials and good news stories that can be used to promote and market the services.
  • Be responsible for liaising with the social media worker to seek donations and gifts in kind to support the delivery of activities, celebrations, and events.

General Duties:

  • To provide personal care to day centre attendees if required.
  • To transport clients to and from the centre using our vehicles.
  • To work in both the Dementia and Wellbeing Centre supporting those who attend to enjoy their day.
  • To work in the community and/or in a person’s own home.
  • To read and understand and adhere to the risk assessment for individuals.
  • To inform the Wellbeing Day Services Manager of any change to the client’s mobility or any change to the client’s property in order that any health and safety issues can be dealt with in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • To act as a “keyworker “for an allocated group of clients, working with them to ensure that they have an up-to-date care and support plan, that they are supported to achieve their individual goals and that these are reviewed and updated at agreed regular intervals. 
  • To undertake other related duties, when requested by the Day Services Manager and assist other members of staff with their duties.
  • To work closely and amicably with volunteers.
  • To work in line with the Health and Safety Instructions for the service
  • Willingness and ability to provide moving and handling assistance (which will include supporting wheelchair users)- Training will be provided.
  • To observe the organisation’s policy on Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities and Confidentiality.

Essential

  • Experience of working with older people in groups and on an individual basis
  • Adhering to all Age UK’s policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety issues and how to work safely.
  • To have a full clean driving Licence

Training & qualifications

Successful completion of all ongoing online/in person training must be achieved by the specified dates.

Job title: Support Assistant (Independent Living Service)
Responsible to: Chief Officer Age UK Herne Bay & Whitstable
Line Manager: Community Services Manager
Rate of Pay: £10.42 per hour
Hours per week: 15 hours over 3 days a week. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (with the availability and willingness to work extra hours according to the needs of the service)

Job Summary.

To provide companionship and personalised support by visiting an older person at home or taking the person on an outing or appointment.

Person specification.

  • To be able to use a caring approach to older people their carers and families.
  • An understanding of older people and the problems they may face.
  • Trustworthy, Honest, Reliable. Excellent time keeping.
  • To be discreet.
  • Respect to the persons individual likes and dislikes and be guided by them.
  • To be able and happy to work alone as well as in a team.
  • To be able to adhere to Age UK Herne Bay & Whitstable’s policies and procedures in so much as they relate to the delivery of this service.
  • To be a driver with a clean licence and access to a vehicle (with insurance covering business use) suitable for transporting clients into the community. A travel allowance is payable at 45p per mile for business mileage.

Duties & Responsibilities.

  • To report any Safeguarding concerns to your manager immediately 
  • Work closely with the Community Services Coordinator and
  • Manager to ensure the clients best interests are always met
  • To complete all related statistical information.
  • Always remember you are a guest in the persons home, and you must always behave so.
  • To provide a person with the assistance a caring relative may undertake.
  • To assist with the preparation of light meals.
  • To shop for client, using the receipt book provided.
  • To collect pensions, pay bills etc. using the agreed process.
  • To offer personalised, emotional support and where possible spend time chatting to the older person, this may be over a cup of tea.
  • To be alert to any health/home safety and report back to the
  • Community Services Coordinator and Manager.
  • To complete all necessary records, in a clear concise and legible form and always sign the entry made.
  • To always maintain confidentiality.
  • To report any accident or untoward incident whilst on duty, immediately if you are unable to gain entry to the Community Services Coordinator/ Manager or in his/her absence on the telephone numbers provided where further instruction will be given.
  • To carry out any other duties as may reasonably be asked.
  • Always knock/ ring doorbell before entering a client’s home. Please note key holding is not a responsibility undertaken by this service. Strict confidentiality on entry codes should be maintained. Always leave the service users home secure.
  • Always wear your ID badge in a visible position.

Training.

  • Training is an essential element in providing a quality service.
  • You will be expected to undertake training as part of your role.
  • All training must be successfully completed and updated at regular intervals, the cost of training will be paid for by Age UK Herne Bay & Whitstable however, if you undertake the online training over and above your normal working hours, that time will be unpaid.

Please note this service is not registered with the CQC and therefore is not able to provide personal care or administer medication in any circumstance.
