Age Friendly Training – Southern Vectis

Age Friendly Island developed training to help service providers become more age-friendly. The Isle of Wight’s main bus operator, Southern Vectis, has incorporated this training into its compulsory programme for all drivers, using an age simulation suit and glasses to give participants an insight into common physical challenges in later life.

Isle Of Wight Against Scams

The IOW Trading Standards Service has joined forces with the Police, Fire and Rescue, Age Friendly Island and Citizens Advice Bureau to form a partnership called IWASP.

IWASP is an acronym for Isle of Wight Against Scams Partnership.

Under the Charter all of these organisations will work together to better protect people on the Isle of Wight from scams, doorstep crime and fraud and to support victims. IWASP doesn't intend to stop there though, we hope to increase our partnership providing on-going support and information from a wide range of organisations and agencies.

Age Friendly Training

The Age Friendly training was written in January 2016. It looks to address cultural attitudes among ageing focusing on physical, physiological and environmental barriers. We worked with senior leads from Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue, Hampshire Police, Southern Vectis (Local transport provider), to ensure that the training would benefit all customer facing staff. The training looks to increase delegate’s knowledge of the challenges an ageing population may bring, as well as the vast opportunities in preparing for, and adapting to the potential needs of this consumer group.
