Andy Murphy, chief executive of Age UK Islington (AUKI) for the past ten years, is retiring at the end of October.  He is being succeeded by Sally Miller, formerly chief executive of Carers Network covering the London boroughs of Westminster, Hammersmith & Fulham and Kensington & Chelsea.

Andy joined AUKI in February 2010 and has been responsible for a transformation of the running of the charity and a deepening and strengthening of its relationships with local residents, the council and the NHS.

New chief executive Sally Miller has worked in the charity sector since 1994 and has spent the last twelve years working with organisations that provide services to older people and their carers.  She has been chief executive of Carers Network for the past three years and prior to that worked in senior positions for Jewish Care and Nightingale Hammerson, a residential care specialist.

“Andy has been a fantastic chief executive for us,” says chair of trustees Howard Sharman, “he has successfully steered the charity through all of the changes in the health and social care sector whilst also transforming the infrastructure of the charity to ensure that it can continue to provide excellent services to older people across Islington.  And, in recent months, when he could quite reasonably have been looking forward to his retirement, he has successfully managed AUKI’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are delighted to welcome Sally to Islington and hope that she will have as long and successful a tenure here as Andy has had.”

Andy Murphy says, “It’s been a privilege and I’ve enjoyed every part of my time with AUKI. I’m proud of the work the charity has done over the last ten years, helping thousands of people achieve and maintain independence and wellbeing”.

Sally Miller says, “I am thrilled to be joining Age UK Islington and am very much looking forward to taking an active role in working with my colleagues to support residents in Islington.”
