Our Healthwise Project helps to promote a healthy lifestyle and increase confidence through exercise classes, wellbeing support and health talks covering a range of topics.
Chair Based Exercise
Are you less active than you used to be? Do any of these sound familiar to you: "I don’t have the time"; "I’m too tired"; "I have no-one to do it with"; "I might injure myself"; "I’ve never been the sporty type"?
If so, and you can’t attend an exercise class, then Exercise At Home may be right for you. As we get older, it is especially important to stay active. To help you get started, we have trained volunteers who can teach chair based exercises within the home for 10 weeks. The service is designed for people who are unable to leave their home to go to exercise classes in the community, or perhaps lack the confidence to do so.
There can be many reasons why we lose the confidence to go outside; it may be due to illness, an operation, a fall, moving to a new area or loss of a partner. Our Walking Supporters can help by offering weekly one-to-one support for 12 weeks. They are experienced volunteers over the age of 50 who can help an older person to rebuild their confidence, and assist them in achieving their goals.
Health Promotional Events
We also hold many health promotional events that cover a wide range of topics in all areas of the borough. In the past we have had talks on diabetes, stroke, heart health, cancer, and depression. We also hold quarterly arthritis seminars which explore different topics in relation to the arthritic condition.
If you would like more information on any of the above, please contact Kate Nash on 020 3181 0002 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us run these services. If you are interested in volunteering with us, click here for more information.
