We're a local charity working in the community to support older people, their families and carers. We want everyone to be able to love later life.

Who we are

Age UK Leeds is an independent local charity. We've been working in the local community to help older people for over 40 years. We have 40 dedicated staff and over 100 volunteers helping us to deliver services and activities for older people in Leeds.

How we are funded

We rely on your support to keep serving the community. We are supported by donations from the public and some charitable grants.

What we do

  • We give advice

Our trained advisors offer free information and advice to older people and their families. In 2016/17 our advisers helped local older people to claim over £720,000 that they were entitled to.

  • We get people home from hospital

Support for Leeds residents aged 60+ who have attended A&E or had a short stay in hospital on the assessment units at St James Hospital in Leeds

  • We befriend

Unfortunately due to high demand, this service is temporarily closed for new referrals as of end June 2022

Our volunteer befrienders visit lonely older people in the community who have no one to talk to. In 2016 our volunteers visited 300 older people who would otherwise be alone.

  • We provide activities

Our city centre building has a wide range of activity groups and events, such as a walking group and creative writing, giving older people the opportunity to keep fit, socialise, or learn a new skill.
