Could you help make someone's Christmas special?
Following the success of this campaign in recent years, we are again working with Leicester’s Hospitals and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust to encourage local people to donate presents for our older patients who will be too ill to leave hospital this Christmas.
If you would like to donate a small gift for an older person who is spending Christmas in hospital in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, please read on to see what you can donate, how and where.
What you can donate
We suggest just a small gift bag containing a few items up to the value of £10. You don’t need to spend a lot to make someone smile! Suggestions for items to include in a gift bag are:
- Lip balms, hand lotions, foot lotions or other moisturising lotions or hand wipes (either fragrance free or gently fragranced)
- Soaps, body wash or deodorant
- Slipper socks or bed socks
- Chocolates, biscuits, sweets, cereal bars, Halal / Indian sweets (not homemade)
- Cordials, original, herbal or flavoured tea-bags, hot chocolate or coffee sachets
- Pens, pencils, notepads, notelets, cards, books and puzzle books
Each year we receive significantly more gifts for ladies than men. Please do remember that there are many older male patients on the wards and perhaps consider donating a gift suitable for a man.
To prevent infection, we will only be able to accept new items in their original packaging and gifts placed in a gift bag and not wrapped in paper. All purchased food products must be in a sealed package and still in date.
Unfortunately we are not able to accept edible homemade gifts (cakes, sweets etc.), electrical items, used books, DVDs or VHS tapes; denominational or religious material; any glass items or products packaged in glass.
How to donate
It's really simple! You can follow this link to print the Making Christmas Special Gift Tags or you can pick up a gift tag in one of Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland’s shops or community resource centres. Just complete the gift tag and attach it to a small, unsealed gift bag filled with goodies!
Packaging your gifts
We welcome all new gifts, still in original packaging. You gifts should be put into a small gift bag which is clearly labelled. By putting items in a gift bag rather than wrapping them, we can ensure that the products are safe and appropriate before passing them on.
Where to donate
You can take your gift bag to any Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland charity shop, community resource centre or office. If you prefer, you can leave gift bags at the reception of the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital or Glenfield Hospital.
Last donations will be accepted on Friday 13th December 2019.
Thank you for supporting the Making Christmas Special campaign.
