How many older people are there living in London?
According to the 2011 Census, there are 8.17 million people living in London. Of these, over 2 million people (25.5%) are aged 50 or over and around 1.25 million (15%) are aged 60 or over.
What issues are important to older people in London?

There are some issues such as crime and the pace of life which are more difficult for older people in London compared with many other areas in the UK and we know that pensioner poverty is greater in London than the rest of the country.
Are people still discriminated against because of their age?
60% of older people in the UK agree that age discrimination exists in the daily lives of older people and 53% of adults agree that once you reach very old age, people tend to treat you as a child. Age discrimination is still a real issue in workplaces, service provision and even the media where older people are too often portrayed either as hapless victims or a drain on the economy.
