Chair of Age UK Merton Board

The role and the person

Age UK Merton is going through an exciting period of expansion. Our dedicated and passionate Chair has completed their term of office, and so, with a refreshed Board with several new members in the past few months, we are looking to recruit a Chair of Trustees who shares our values and passion for connected communities, alongside services that meet the needs of the most vulnerable. In addition, we are looking for someone who can:

  • Take a strong but sensitive approach to leadership, and build a coherent trustee team
  • Use their knowledge and experience to support the development of the organisation and its executive and non-executive leadership
  • Represent and promote the charity at a senior level, helping to create further opportunities

About Us

Set up 60 years ago, Age UK Merton is an independent local charity based in Mitcham, and serving the older people in Merton. Our vision is to create a place where older people love later life. We believe that fun, friendship, and helping people to help each other, creates a happier, healthier community

Age UK Merton is a well-respected local charity that is known for its friendly activity programme where you can take part in anything from Zumba to dynamic dominos; stitches to art; water aerobics to scrabble club; love to lunch; seated exercise to walking groups; theatre; supper club; and a wide variety of outings to places of interest.

It is also known for the targeted services we provide to over 3000 older and disabled people – Information & advice, befriending, At Home services, podiatry, Live Well. We are small but we ‘punch above our weight’ in influence and importance to the local voluntary sector, and most of all, in our impact for the people we support.

Covid – 19

During these unprecendented times, we have adapted our services to continue to support as many older people as we can, working with our partners in both the statutory and voluntary sectors.  This has included providing a single Hub point of contact for both those needing help and those wanting to provide that help through volunteering
