In line with government advice to keep our clients safe, DEGA has had to close until further notice.
During the Lockdown the Club Co-ordinator has been working with her team of volunteers to support our club members during these difficult times. Every club member is telephoned at least once a week for a chat and to check that they are ok. Where possible we have been doing a bit of shopping, collecting prescriptions and sharing jigsaw puzzles. Since the club closed we have sent each person several postcards with cheery messages to let them know they have not been forgotten. We remind them that we'll all be back together once government guidelines allow, and we are discussing how we might be able to do this.
We are also trying to support the families of club members with dementia, but in the main they say they are well supported by their wider families, but miss most the respite from caring that we provide.
What does the club offer?
We provide day care and company for frail older people living in Woburn Sands and the surrounding villages. We encourage our clients to enjoy social contact and to join in activities which are tailored to their needs and abilities in a caring, safe environment. We also provide morning refreshments and a freshly cooked lunch.
Who is it for?
The club is particularly suited to the needs of older people who are mentally frail. As well as providing a caring safe environment for its members it also gives support and relief to carers and relatives. Club members are encouraged to join in group conversations about topics that are of interest to them. We sit in the comfortable sitting room at the village hall in small groups. This way people do not feel intimidated or institutionalised. We play boards games and chat and no-one is left out.
How much does it cost?
- every Monday and Thursday 10am to 3pm
- at Aspley Guise Village Hall, Woburn Lane, Aspley Guise, Beds MK17 8JH
How do I access the club?
The club is run by a paid co-ordinator and a team of dedicated volunteers. Please call the co-ordinator during club hours 07979 928 448 or 01908 550700 at other times.
