A sitting service for people caring for a person aged 55 or over.
What does this service offer?
The service is for older people who would benefit from a regular or ad hoc visit. This not only allows a family member or carer to have a break from their caring duties, it also enables an older person to enjoy the company of someone different for a few hours.
We can sit with the person needing care or take them out for a walk or a visit. We can sit and chat to the carer as well, if they need a bit of support or want to find out about other sources of help.
Who is it for?
Our service enables carers to go out without having to rush back, knowing that our member of staff can be relied on.
How much does it cost?
- £16 per hour 9am to 5pm weekdays
- £19 per hour weekends and after 5pm weekdays

Mrs B looks after her husband who has dementia. She has recently been diagnosed with cancer herself and gets very anxious. Understandably she does not cope well at the moment and finds it a struggle to manage day-to-day life. Our Relief Care sitting service sits with Mr B on an ad hoc basis, enabling Mrs B to attend hospital appointments when she needs to.
When 86 year old Mrs V was widowed she moved to live near her daughter. Then she had a heart attack and is now in poor helath. She looks forward to a weekly visit from our Relief Care Service because “we have a chat, a laugh and a cup of tea.” Her daughter, who is Mrs V's full-time carer, has a complete break, knowing that her mother is being safely looked after for two hours.
