Age UK Northamptonshire is a separate business from the national charity Age UK.  We are not linked to their shops in any way.

Turnover from our eight shops for this coming financial year 2018/19 is expected to be £515,000.  We expect this income to make a contribution towards our charitable activities of £90,000, which is 17p in each £1.  The rest will used to pay business rates (reduced), rent and utilities, fuel, insurances and salaries.  All costs are accounted for to the best standards.

The national average for charity shops is 19p in every pound goes to charitable activities.  As well as making the largest contribution to support Age UK Northamptonshire's services our shops also:

  • employ over 18 people and support the local community
  • enable over 120 local people to volunteer, staying active and meeting new friends as well as giving something back to their community.  .

Our shops are a place where people can find out about the services and support the charity offers to older people in Northamptonshire.

At a time when funding has all but disappeared, press articles that cast doubt on the integrity of charity shops are destructive and unnecessary.  Age UK Northamptonshire's shops are well managed and professionally run and without the hard work and dedication of our shop workforce Age UK Northamptonshire would not be able to continue .
