Location:   in the community, supporting patients discharged from Kettering General Hospital

Rate of pay:  £9.71 per hour

Shift hours: 9.30am – 1.30pm
Contracted number of four-hour shifts by agreement (including weekends)

Would you make a great care worker?

We’re looking for people who are kind, caring and compassionate.  We will support you with training and increase your confidence by nurturing you so that you can provide the highest quality care to people who have recently been discharged from Kettering General Hospital.  This is an opportunity to join a caring and supportive team, to make a real difference to older people at a challenging time and to achieve immense job satisfaction.

Working for a charitable organisation can make a big difference to your role; we put the people we support first.

Why do our staff love working as a carer for Age UK Northamptonshire?

  •  "I like meeting people and helping them at such a vulnerable time in their lives."
  •  "I love the experience of connecting with people for a common outcome."
  •  "I enjoy the variety - no two days are the same."

About the role

This is a varied role which involves carrying out personal care tasks.  You will work in partnership with other Age UK Northamptonshire teams at Kettering General Hospital and be involved in the assessment process of patients before they are discharged from hospital.

You will work with clients in their own homes and provide the appropriate care that enables them to make the most of life.  This role provides personal care as needed, which may include washing and dressing, preparing meals, assistance with toileting, mobility and transfers. You may also make the bed and empty commodes.  You will gently encourage clients to do as much as they can for themselves, thereby improving their wellbeing and quality of life.

About you

We are looking for someone with hands-on experience and life skills.  You might have a background in care work but would like a change.  Perhaps you have always worked in residential care and would now prefer to be more active out in the community.  We need someone who can complete written documentation as required by the service and understands the need for confidentiality.  Although every effort will be made to minimise travelling, carers will be expected to travel as the service demands, mainly within Northamptonshire.  Having access to your own transport is essential.

You will need to have good levels of physical fitness in order to comply with manual handling instructions and to provide personal care.  If you are flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work on your own initiative, we'd love to hear from you.
