Age NI educates, campaigns and lobbies the NI Executive, the NI Assembly and Government Authorities to ensure that older people’s issues are represented at the highest level.
Our policy team is challenging government to tackle the barriers of poverty and discrimination, and to improve health & social care provision. Successful campaigns have included working with our partners in the age sector to secure 80,000 additional fuel payments (worth £12.5 million) for older people and lobbying for an Older People’s Commissioner, appointed in 2011.
All Party Group on Ageing and Older People
The All Party Group on Ageing and Older People is a cross party group of MLAs and was set up in May 2015 instigated by Claire Sudgen MLA and Age NI who will act as Secretariat. Its aim is to ensure that the issues affecting older people are a priority for the NI Assembly, to ensure that Assembly policies prepare NI for an ageing society and to encourage debate and engage in discussion with the NI Age Sector and MLAs.
