Pension contributions

Enter into this box any pension contributions that you make yourself after receiving your salary.

So DO NOT include any pension contribtutions that your employer takes from your salary before you are paid - when your employer takes you pension contributions from your salary before you are paid they automatically calculate the tax relief you get on your pension contributions.

Examples of pension contributions to enter here include:

  • contributions to a personal or stakeholder pension that you have taken out youself,
  • free-standing Additional Vountary Contributions (AVCs) that you are making to a pension or a pension term insurance policy that qualifies for tax relief.

If you make payments into a retirement annuity contract before tax relief then the amount you pay in should be entered, further down the page, under payments that qualify for tax relief.

You can get more information on your tax relief and pensions from HM Revenue and Customs.
