In response to the Taxpayers Alliance comments, Duane Farrell, Charity Director for Age NI, said:

We hope it is untrue that a speaker from the Tax Payers' Alliance suggested yesterday that it would be ok to remove benefits from older people because they wouldn't remember or would die before the next General Election in 2020.’

‘If that was said and was meant as a joke it was in poor taste. If it was said and the speaker meant it, then we look forward to the Alliance repudiating their comments without delay, since no organisation that wants to be considered to have a serious contribution to make to public policy would ever disparage older people in this way.’
