Age NI, supported by Power NI, hosted more than 200 older people and stakeholders from the community and statutory sectors at Titanic Belfast to celebrate the success of 5 years of partnership working.

Guest speakers at the ‘Celebrate Age’ event included Junior Ministers Martina Anderson and Jonathan Bell, and Older People’s Commissioner Claire Keatinge.

Anne O’Reilly, Age NI Chief Executive commented, ‘During the last 5 years, Age NI has worked with older people, in partnership with community/voluntary organisations, Councils and Health Trusts to deliver the Fit for Purpose programme.  This project aimed to build a regional infrastructure of eleven Networks which would bring together older people’s groups across NI, strengthen the regional voice of older people and support them to influence important decisions being made about local policy and services.

‘Our ‘Celebrate Age’ event demonstrates the positive impact of the change and collaboration that has been driven by the Networks in the last 5 years.  It also brings together local decision makers including Council Champions, Health Trust Commissioners and funders to hear the voice of the Networks and the recognise the importance of shaping programmes now to ensure a better future for older people throughout NI.

Stephen McCully, Managing Director at Power NI added, ‘Power NI is delighted to support the ‘Celebrate Age’ event in partnership with Age NI. Customers are at the core of our business and we’re always keen to ensure that our products and services are accessible to our older customers. We’re also delighted to launch a very popular free insulation scheme where a range of customers can avail of free cavity and loft insulation worth up to £800. We would encourage those customers on a modest income or pension to call us, as we’re particularly keen to help older people insulate their homes.’
