The Age NI Store sells pre-loved clothes and homeware to raise vital funds for people in later life. The shop also plays a vital role in the local community by providing older people and their families’ with access to a variety of services provided by Age NI. There is an information hub offering free advice guides and leaflets on a range of issues in later life including money, care, housing and health. Donations of stock and new volunteers to help out in the shop are always needed too.

Nick, an avid supporter of Age NI since a charity partnership was formed with his employer Danske Bank in 2014, is trekking Mount Toubkal in Morocco as part of a 3 peak challenge to raise money for people in later life. Nick said, ‘I undertook my first adventure for Age NI when I travelled to Arizona to trek the Grand Canyon. The Moroccan trek is the second of three challenges I’m taking on - the first was on snow capped Ben Nevis in April and the third part will be the Dalai Lama Trek in the Himalayas next winter.’

‘Mount Toubkal is probably a bigger challenge for me than the Grand Canyon trek. It’s the highest mountain in Northern Africa, standing at a height of 4167 metres, roughly 5 times the size of Slieve Donard. The trek will last 4 days and will include 2 nights staying at altitude in a mountain hut about 1000m from the summit. This time there is the potential of altitude sickness to contend with, as well as 40 degree heat, with the possibility of some snow at the upper levels. The 3 peak challenge is a personal goal I set myself as a way to continue my support for older people and because I love trekking. The challenge gives me the motivation to keep active and fit and do something I enjoy.’
