Researchers from Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) want to identify outcomes which are important to older people when they are taking many medicines (polypharmacy).

In this study, an ‘outcome’ is defined as the ‘effect’ that prescribing many medicines would have on the patient. When a set of outcomes have been agreed for a health condition or a new approach for caring for patients, it is called a ‘Core Outcome Set’.

The results from the study will lead to the development of a ‘Core Outcome Set’ for research that will focus on polypharmacy. The study is led by Professor Carmel Hughes in the School of Pharmacy (QUB),

Researchers are looking for people, aged 65 years or older, to help develop the core outcome set by completing three questionnaires that will be made available on-line.
