Final Response to Minimum Care Standards for Nursing Homes
October 2014

Age NI believes that dignity, independence and choice should be at the heart of the provision of nursing home care and the standards should prioritise that these placements are the resident’s home first and foremost.

Taking these standards back to basics they are about looking after another human being in the way that we would like to be cared for when we are older ourselves and need to move into a nursing care setting.

NIHRC Inquiry into Emergency Health Care

Age NI welcomes the opportunity to give evidence to this inquiry into emergency health care. Age NI believes that we need to change how health and social care delivers for older people.

Age NI welcomes the opportunity to respond to Making Choices: Meeting the current and future accommodation needs of older people. Response to Transforming Your Care
January 2013

Age NI welcomes the opportunity to respond to TYC and calls for action as a failure to act over the quality of care will result in care that is inadequate and inconsistent.

We make 37 recommendations across a number of areas and have identified 3 key impact areas – older people and prevention; closure of statutory residential homes and dementia as well as general comment on Integrated Care Partnerships, commissioning and procurement, workforce planning and the role of the Voluntary and Community Sector.

2012 Health & Social Care Papers

Response to Service Framework for Older People
December 2012

Age NI welcomes the opportunity to respond to the draft Service Framework for Older People as setting standards to ensure that services are of a high quality and available to all older people across Northern Ireland has the potential to change the way older people are treated and viewed when receiving health and social care services.

This is particularly relevant at this time when health and social care is undergoing significant change with the proposals from Transforming Your Care (TYC), the recent consultation on the draft public health strategy, Fit and Well and the current work on Who Cares? The Future of Adult Care and Support in NI. Embedding high quality standards at this time of change and upheaval can give older people and their families the confidence that they will be treated with dignity and respect at all times and in all situations.
