BT Connected Communities

BT Connected Communities are investing resources to tackle online social exclusion and increase public access to computers and the internet.

Their free and informal introductory computer sessions are suitable for all ages and abilities and build confidence and skills for new users, particularly rural dwellers and farm families.

The internet taster sessions will help people discover the benefits of being online such as:

  • keeping in touch with friends and family
  • saving money on bills
  • sending e-mails and photos
  • searching information about your favourite hobby eg sports results, knitting patterns
  • shopping online
  • accessing local services e.g. reserving library books, booking your MOT
  • online banking
  • catching up on TV programmes
  • using an ipad or tablet.

BT Connected Communities train local Digital Champion volunteers to help take learners through the basics and get them online and /or support their job search.

Informal internet courses are being run over six weeks in a number of Community Venues, tailored to suit participants needs, with 4 - 12 participants per course. People can bring in their own laptop, tablet, ipad if they prefer to use them.

Sessions are held at various times in the following areas, subject to demand & availability:
