Like most voluntary organisations, we have been dealing with major challenges to maintain services in the face of dire public finances. Cuts to government and local council funding means statutory support has crumbled.
We have been enormously luck to have found alternative funding from charitable grants and over the coming years we need to become increasingly inventive to find new ways to meet need and pilot new services to attract funds.
Older people have not been seen as a major cause to donate to, by individuals or businesses, as most people assume our work is paid for by local and national government. In fact part from our day care, our services get just 19% of their resources from the public purse.
We will continue to base our work on a portfolio of funding – large and small grants, donations, social enterprise.
