Handyperson Service

Our handyperson service provides practical assistance to help you remain safe and independent in your home

The service provides a vetted handyperson to undertake small repair and maintenance jobs in and around your home. All of our staff are fully insured and have been thoroughly checked through the Disclosure & Barring Service.

What type of jobs can we help you with?

  • Putting up shelving
  • Installing grab-rails and handrails
  • HandypersonBasic home security jobs – fitting key safes, door chains, window locks
  • Fitting smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Assembling flat-pack furniture
  • Installing light fittings
  • Changing light bulbs, fuses and electrical plugs
  • Cleaning out single-storey guttering
  • Small decorating jobs
  • Replacing tap washers
  • Draught-proofing windows and doors

Please note that we are unable to undertake any work requiring professional certification, such as gas central heating and electrical wiring jobs, nor can we take on any large building work or major decorating jobs.

Who can use the service?Handyperson

The service is available in Portsmouth and south east Hampshire, whether you are a home-owner, or a private or council tenant. If you are a tenant you may need to check whether you need your landlord’s permission before undertaking certain types of work on the property.

How much does the service cost?

The service is charged at £26.75 per hour (minimum booking one hour) plus the cost of any additional materials that the handyperson may need to purchase on your behalf in order to complete your job.

Income received from our paid-for services contributes to funding our free charitable services, such as Befriending and Information & Advice, which help to support vulnerable older people in your area.
