From 15th June as part of TFL's recent funding and finance agreement with the Government, passengers with an older person's Freedom Pass or 60+ Oyster card or English Concessionary Scheme pass will not be able to use those passes during weekday morning peak hours. This is in order to help support social distancing on the public transport network and help control Coronavirus.
Additionally from 15th June, everyone travelling on Public Transport will be required to wear a face covering for the duration of their journey. This can be a simple face covering made at home or a face mask which can be purchased from local shops or on line.
This change penalises older Londoners travelling not because they want to but because they have to. It will especially hit keyworkers (often on lower wages), carers, those with early morning essential medical appointments, charity volunteers and people accessing early morning priority shopping hours.
We are supporting Age UK London’s campaign to protect the Freedom Pass and Free Oyster Cards for over 60s. Please see the link to the template email to the Mayor of London created by Age UK London opposing the suspension of transport concessions for older Londoners and pressing to ensure this temporary change does not become permanent: https://ageuklondon.act.sixandtwothrees.com/protect_free_travel_for_older_londoners/
