Weaste Community Improvements
The Weaste Social Group has been active and set about addressing various issues to benefit the wider community with a strong focus on safety and acessibility to make it easier to when out and about in the neighbourhood. As a group they have:
- Introduced new litter bins
- Added double yellow lines to prevent cars parking on pavements
- Arranged for kerbs to be dropped
- Had grids cleared and unblocked which previously caused flooding
- Added a new bus shelter
Collectively they have already had a real impact on their area and have acheived this by working in partnership with Urban Vision.
Stitch in Time - Sewing Enterprise
The Weaste Ladies Health and Social Club formed when a number of local older people who felt socially isolated following a bereavement or loss and wanted to create a welcoming social place to meet new friends. With support from Ambition for Ageing, the group has developed a sewing project called Stitch in Time to enable members to learn new sewing skills.
The group has enabled local older people of all abilities to learner new skills and to make soft furnishings and items of clothing in a relaxed and friendly environment. The group have also taken the opportunity to raise money for charity and also sustain the group by selling items at local fairs.
