COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Covid-19 (Coronavirus) has hit all areas not only of the UK but the World in many different ways, we have joined forces with a number of other Voluntary Organisations across the Scarborough and Filey area to try and build a community response to this virus, as well as working with Scarborough Borough Council and North Yorkshire County Council.

We are building a database of volunteers who are willing to help in their communities, this can include, telephone conversations with those who are isolated, shopping, co-ordinating volunteers and those in need, and just building a stronger community moving forward. We are also wanting anyone who is struggling with Covid-19 across Scarborough and Filey to get in touch, and we will help in any way that we can.

We are able to help in a number of ways, so for anyone who has any queries in the Scarborough and Filey area please get in touch primarily with ourselves on 01723 379058 or scarbcomsupp2020@gmail.com, or otherwise our colleagues at Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind on 01723 356562.

The link above (Or here) will take you directly to the list of available restaurants and takeaways in and around Scarborough, we will continue to keep an eye on this list and update it where neccessary! It contains the addresses, services offered, contact number and website. Feel free to contact us if we missed you, or if you're already on this list and your circumstances have changed.

Telephone Befriending

Isolation for the older generation is a critical issue at the best of times, however, facing isolation and a lockdown can make this situation nothing but worse. Luckily, the local community have widely offered their time to make calls to some of our clients that are at risk of isolation and our team are actively working through the exhaustive lists to get people paired up and socialising. If you or someone you know is feeling at risk of isolation, contact our team on 01723 379058 and we will work to find a volunteer and start building some friendships within the local community!

Prescription & Food Deliveries

With a lot of the older generation being at higher risk during this time, they're more likely to face issues when it comes to running their daily / weekly errands such as food shopping and or prescription. We have a band of volunteers throughout the community that are offering to do shopping trips to make sure our at-risk clients have the neccessities to get by. We also understand people rely on their prescriptions and we are able to help make sure everyone has the oppurtunity to safely recieve their medication.

Food Vouchers

In certain circumstances we can issue food vouchers to those that are shileding or self-isolating.  Please get in touch for more details about crtieria.

Book Service

We can deliver 3-4 books to you, from a genre of your choice.  You can then either keep these books, pass them on or return them to us for someone else to use.  All our books are 'isolated' for 72 hours before being put in our book room, where a member of staff selects the books for you, for a volunteer to then deliver.

Jigsaw Swap

If you have just finished your recent jigsaw and want a new one to complete, why not get in touch about our jigsaw swap, again all jigsaws are isolated before they get rehomed.  All we ask is that you have a jigsaw to swap when our volunteers drop off your new jigsaw.

Counselling

We have access to some counselling (criteria do apply), these are for 6-8 sessions, if you feel you could benefit from this please do get in touch and let us know.  We can talk through the process and crtieria with you.
