Age Scotland believes that Scotland’s transport system must work for older people if it is to be fit for purpose.
Transport is a crucial tool for tackling loneliness and isolation.
Throughout 2018, Age Scotland undertook a major process of consultation with Scotland’s older people on their transport needs. Working in partnership with Transport Scotland (the Scottish Government’s transport agency), we led 20 workshops for older people around Scotland where they could share their thoughts on transport. We also collected older people’s views on transport in a questionnaire.
The primary purpose of this consultation was to ensure that older people’s voices were heard in the process of shaping the new National Transport Strategy (NTS2) – a government strategic document which will shape transport decisions in Scotland for the next two decades.
Our consultation work is now complete and you can view and download a summary report below.
The information gathered will also serve to shape our policy positions on transport matters in the months ahead, including on transport legislation currently before the Scottish Parliament.
