Fundraising Challenges and Events

Edinburgh Men’s 10k – 4th November 2018

A relatively new event the Edinburgh Men’s 10K is only in its third year. Consistently around 40% of the men taking part have never entered a running event before so it’s ideal for new and experienced runners alike. Starting on the historic Royal Mile this incredible city center route takes you past the capitals iconic landmarks including the Scott Monument and Scottish Parliament before finishing at the National rugby stadium, Murrayfield Stadium.

Scottish Kilomathon – 7th April 2019

A unique distance to take part in or the perfect training run for a hall / full marathon. The route goes through Edinburgh’s beautiful cycle path network. Runners take in the historic Royal Yacht Britannia, the picturesque Victoria Park and enjoy tranquil cycle paths before a fantastic finish in front of the West Stand at BT Murrayfield Stadium.

Edinburgh Marathon Festival – 25th / 26th May 2019

Starting on Potterrow in the grounds of one of the oldest universities in Edinburgh, this run takes you through the heart of the city passing iconic landmarks such as the Scott Monument and Arthurs Seat. The finish takes you along the beautiful coastline in Musselburgh. The Edinburgh Marathon has sold out every year since 2008 and is the second largest marathon in the UK, behind only London. Fast and flat it’s ideal for experienced runners looking for a PB or first time marathon runners taking on the ultimate challenge. Not quite ready for a marathon distance? The EMF also offers Half Marathon, 10k or 5k, so whatever the distance, you can find your perfect challenge in Scotland’s picturesque capital city.

Forth Rail Bridge Abseil – Sunday 7th July 2019

Organised by the Rotary Club of South Queensferry, you will have a unique opportunity to experience the thrill of a 165ft SAS style abseil(freefall) from the Forth Rail Bridge onto the beach below. No previous experience is necessary to take part in the Forth Bridge Abseil and it is suitable for everyone over the age of sixteen.

A team of highly skilled instructors from the Glasgow Climbing Centre will ensure that you are equipped with all you need to make your abseil as safe and enjoyable as possible.Entry is £30 with an agreement to raise an additional minimum £150 of sponsorships which is very achievable and Age Scotland’s fundraising team are on hand to support you with your sponsorship and fundraising efforts every step of the way!

Glasgow Men’s 10k – 16th June 2019

The beautiful city center route starts outside the Riverside Museum before heading east along the River Clyde passing the Glasgow Science Centre, The Armadillo, The SECC and the SSE Hydro, continuing down Saltmarket, to Glasgow Green and the People’s Palace before finishing in George Square. This event is the perfect opportunity for you to lace up those trainers and make a difference, either to your own life or someone else’s.

National and International Challenges

We’ve had fundraisers taking part in far afield challenges from walking the Camino to trekking in Macchu Picchu and sledding across the Arctic.  Whether trekking or cycling takes your fancy, the UK or somewhere further afield there are a variety of challenges to and dates to choose from.
