Community Connecting Volunteer
Our statistics have revealed that 240,000 people in Scotland regard the television or a pet as their closest companion. Here at Age Scotland, we aim to tackle loneliness and social isolation on a practical level through our Community Connecting Service – and we need your help!
Based in our Edinburgh office, the purpose of a Community Connector is to help older people across Scotland link in with community services that offer friendship, social activities, health and fitness groups and events.
Your role will involve contacting the older person to find out their interests, researching the relevant opportunities and keeping in touch with them for a few weeks with regular calls of friendship and encouragement.
We are looking for volunteers who:
- enjoy talking to people over the phone
- can listen effectively
- can research online and use Age Scotland resources.
- have a general knowledge of I.T
- are comfortable working on their own at times.
- can commit to 3-4 hours per week.
Benefits include training and development opportunities, travel reimbursements, invitations to Age Scotland social events and ongoing support. Your volunteering can be arranged for mutual convenience; anytime Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
Whether you want to develop your communication skills, meet new people or just make a difference – this role is for you!
