News: Has Covid-19 exacerbated the intergenerational divide?

29 June 2020

Older people have been disproportionately affected on health grounds by the coronavirus pandemic. But many younger people are likely to bear the brunt in terms of disrupted education and a lack of job opportunities.

At Age Scotland, it's been incredibly inspiring to see generations coming together to help one another at this time. We've been heartened by the response of young fundraisers and those who are helping older people in their communities.

But there are fears that in some cases, the crisis might have exacerbated the "intergenerational divide". And it raises the question what kind of social contract will exist between young and old as the lockdown is eased?

Listen to Age Scotland's Head of Policy Adam Stachura and Ashley Seager, of the Intergenerational Foundation, discuss this on BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland.
