Energy price rise: Impact on low income older people

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland's 'Good Morning Scotland' programme today, head of policy and communications Adam Stachura outlined the challenges for low income older people when faced with increasing energy costs.

More than a quarter of over 50s in Age Scotland's Big Survey said that they were financially squeezed, and of them 82% cited energy bills as the major cause.

A third of older homes in Scotland are in fuel poverty. Increasing costs will make life much harder.

It is important that older people claim everything that they are entitled to and support with energy bills could be available. Age Scotland's helpline offers free benefit and entitlement checks on 0800 12 44 222.
