Brian, whose background is in financial services, hospitality and retail, was for over a year Chairman of Age Scotland Enterprises, the Charity's social enterprise arm. He became the Charity's Interim Chief Executive in July 2012, following the departure of David Manion.

Previously he was involved in strategic business development for Young Enterprise Scotland, charged with leading the promotion and expansion of enterprise into mainstream education. Brian's financial experience included over a year as Head of Business Development with Capital Credit Union, Britain's fifth largest not-for-profit cooperative.

He is married with four children, active both as a participant (golf and squash) and a spectator in a variety of sports and in early 2011 was appointed by the Scottish Government as a member of the Edinburgh Children's Panel.

Brian Sloan said: "I took a conscious decision in 2009 to get involved with the Third Sector and have been amazed at the passion, drive and tireless commitment of people right across the sector, and especially the staff and volunteers within Age Scotland.

"Despite the extremely challenging financial climate, I intend to maintain and if possible expand the services we offer, such as the Age Scotland Helpline and our support to member groups across Scotland, on the back of income from our retail and enterprise activities, while exploring other avenues to increase revenue.

"It is crucial that in these difficult times we become much more focussed on sustainability without cutting back on services that those in later life in all parts of Scotland rely on, so one of my priorities will be to identify opportunities for partnerships across all sectors, where possible using the social enterprise model."

Age Scotland's Chairman, James Wright said: "I am delighted that we have been able to appoint, from a very strong field, someone who combines a passionate commitment to achieving the Charity's objectives with business acumen and a strong record of success in management.  This is a good day for Age Scotland and the people whom we serve."
