Age Scotland highlights free home insulation scheme

21 October 2011

Age Scotland is encouraging older people to contact the Home Energy Scotland Hotline to find out if they're eligible for the Government's Universal Home Insulation Scheme.
The Government is celebrating the 30,000th installation under the scheme and is urging households to take advantage of the initiative.  It has been estimated that increasing the energy efficiency of your home in this way alone could save households up to £185 a year.
Age Scotland's Policy Officer, Greg McCracken, said "With rising fuel bills, enabling older households to become more energy efficient is vital in tackling fuel poverty.  Of course, even if you're coping with your fuel bills for now, it makes sense to try to reduce your outgoings and your carbon footprint.
"We're encouraging people to get in touch with Home Energy Scotland's Hotline to find out if they're eligible for grant funding.  They will also be able to tell you what other support and advice might be available to help you improve the efficiency of your home."
Householders can find out more by contacting the Home Energy Scotland Hotline on 0800 512 012 or on 0300 456 2655 from a mobile.
