Hats off to knitters across Scotland

Knitters in Scotland have stitched 46,000 little woolly hats this year for the Big Knit campaign. The hats are popped on innocent smoothie bottles throughout November, and for each one sold, innocent donates 25p to Age Scotland, helping to fund projects to support older people through the winter months.
The hats can be found on the top of innocent bottles in the shape of fruit, animals, people or simply traditional bobble hats in Sainsbury's, ASDA, Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose, Ocado, WHSmith, Costa and Boots stores across the country from today.
Brian Sloan, Age Scotland's Chief Executive, said: "We're grateful that so many knitters across Scotland have got behind the Big Knit - this campaign couldn't happen without their support. The funds raised will go a long way towards supporting local projects and services which are vital in helping older people through this difficult time of year."
In addition to its support for local services for older people Age Scotland runs an annual Spread the Warmth campaign to ensure older people have the information and advice they need to stay warm, safe and well, and to challenge politicians to take action to stop the scandal of cold homes.
It's not too late to get involved: you can buy a be-hatted smoothie from 6th November to help raise vital funds or create your own little virtual hat using the Big Knitter. For every little hat shared on Facebook or Twitter, 10p from innocent will be donated to improve life for older people this winter.
Age Scotland and innocent are asking people to recycle their old knitted hats by posting them to Age Scotland - ‘Hats Reunited', Causewayside House, 160 Causewayside, Edinburgh, EH9 1PR, so that they can be reused next year to help raise even more money for people in later life.
Age Scotland participates in the Big Knit as a member of the Age Network of Charities; alongside Age UK, Age NI and Age Cymru.
