Around The House In 80 Days
Around the House in 80 Days (ATH80) is a health and wellbeing initiative aimed at helping older people to increase their physical movement and build strength, balance and flexibility from the comfort of their own surroundings at the same time as making new connections.
Short exercise videos you can do at home
We know that having fun is the best way to motivate ourselves to move more and sit less. With this is mind, we have developed a range of simple daily movement exercises with a fun twist. From the ‘Bedroom Boogie’ to some ‘Bathroom Banter’ and ‘Kitchen Capers’, Around the House in 80 Days aims to turn everyday activities around the home into an opportunity to get moving!
All videos are available on the Age Scotland YouTube channel.
We also have a limited number of DVDs available for anyone without internet access. To request a copy of the DVD please contact us on 0333 323 2400.
Health and wellbeing friendship circles
We also offer phone-based health and wellbeing friendship circles, which you can join the circles at any stage and dip in and out of sessions as much as you like. These are open to anyone who wants to know a bit more about their health and well-being and would like the support of a small group and to make new connections.
The StillGoing Project and LifeCurve App
We are delighted to be working in partnership with the StillGoing project and LifeCurve App which are researching how people are ageing in Scotland and the things that help them age well.
The LifeCurve App has a lot of helpful advice and activities. It can be downloaded to any smart phone or tablet and when registering please link to the ATH80 project as a partner. The research project is based in Strathclyde University and you can contact Susan Kelso for more information or for any queries by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by visiting www.stillgoingproject.co.uk
Looking after your health and safety
The ATH80 project has been developed by Age Scotland in accordance with the current evidence-base, with regards to physical exercises and movements that are beneficial and safe for older adults.
Please take responsibility for your own health and safety during the movement sets. There will be standing and seated options and you should choose the option which is best for you. Make sure you have a bit of space around you to move around safely and have a support such as a chair or worktop at hand if this will help you with your confidence and comfort. The charity will not accept liability for any accidents or injuries taking place during a session.
Please also take note of the following:
- If you have any particular health concerns or conditions you may want to discuss these with your health care professional or exercise leader before taking part.
- You are responsible for monitoring your own health issues during the session.
- Move at your own pace and intensity and take a break whenever you feel you need to.
- Keep yourself hydrated and always have a drink of water near to hand.
- Please make sure you can do the virtual session safely in your own home
