Making the home a dementia enabling environment

The majority of people living with dementia live in their own home. This short workshop looks at the benefits of the home environment for people living with dementia, the challenges for people living of staying in their own home, the factors that can help people remain independent in their own home and further support for making a home an enabling environment.

Dementia - Wellbeing and mood

There are many factors that can influence mood for people living with dementia. In this short workshop we explore some of these factors and look at what may help people understand these factors and what meaningful activities and considerations may help improve mood.

Dementia - Prevention and living well

Research tells us that there are many factors which increase our chances of developing dementia. By turning these risk factors on their heads, we can learn about the many changes that can be made to different aspects of our lives which can both reduce the risk of developing dementia and to live better after a diagnosis of dementia. This short course explores this important issue and provides guidance for participants for their own lives as well as for the people living with dementia they support.

Communication and Dementia

Do you want to learn to communicate better with people living with dementia? This short course explores the communication problems which dementia can bring and also tips and strategies for communicating more effectively – face to face, on the phone, in writing or online – with people living with dementia.

Coming out of COVID - supporting people affected by dementia

This workshop shares learning about the impact of COVID and things to consider to enable people to engage in activities post COVID. It also gives participants opportunities to share their experiences so we can all learn about what might work going forward.

Benefits for people over State Pension age

Thanks to funding from the Yorkshire Building Society, Age Scotland is providing new online workshops about benefits and social security for people over State Pension age.

Many older people don’t claim the income they are entitled to, so we want to raise awareness of the benefits that exist to support them, and why older people don’t take steps to unlock their entitlements.

They are free to attend, and provide useful information for older people and the people who support them.

Our 2-hour basic training looks at:

  • Setting the scene about older people and benefits
  • Non means tested benefits
  • Means tested benefits, and
  • What’s changing?

You can take part in our training by video using the free Zoom app.  All that’s needed is a laptop / computer / tablet / smartphone and an internet connection. We do the rest!

If you would like bespoke training for a group of 6 or more people we may be able to arrange training specifically for you. Please contact rightstraining@agescotland.org.uk
