Great Get Together

Great Get TogetherDozens of older people enjoyed lunch, chat and dancing at Age UK Sheffield's first ever Great Get Together on 25th June.

The event enabled around 50 local residents and those who may feel lonely or socially isolated to meet others in the community and featured live entertainment from charismatic mother and son duo, Patricia Lynn and Stevie Moore. To top it off, they were joined by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Tony Downing, who paid tribute to the work that Age UK Sheffield does in combating loneliness amongst older people.

Attendees from Nightingale Care Home, in Ecclesfield, said: “Our residents have really enjoyed this fantastic afternoon. There has been a lovely atmosphere and they have enjoyed singing along with the entertainers”.

The afternoon was inspired by Jo Cox MP’s words, “We have more in common than that which divides us” and was held to celebrate this sentiment.

In addition to events such as this, Age UK Sheffield also runs an Intouch/Befriending Service which matches volunteers to an older person who has similar interests. If you know anyone who’d like to get involved with Age UK Sheffield, click here to visit our Volunteering page.
