Urgent appeal to bring relief to the most vulnerable older people in our city
Age UK Sheffield COVID-19 Food and medication delivery service for older people most at risk
Age UK Sheffield has launched an urgent campaign to raise £50,000 to ensure older people who are isolated during the coronavirus outbreak receive all the food and medication they need to survive.
Sheffielders are urged to donate whatever they can to the appeal, following the first donation of £10,000, which has come from Westfield Health’s charitable trust.
Age UK Sheffield Chief Executive, Steve Chu, said: “We are already getting reports of older people who are unable to receive their food and medication, and have started some emergency support. But it seems that older people may be asked to stay indoors for weeks or months, and we need to ensure they get the food and medication they need to survive through this frightening period.
“I am so grateful to Westfield Health for their generosity in getting this campaign under way. Now I am urging local people to donate whatever they can to help us meet people’s needs over the coming months.”
- A donation of £5 will pay for a volunteer’s expenses to collect someone’s medication and deliver it to them
- A donation of £10 will pay for a weekly “essentials” food box to be supplied and delivered to an older person
- A donation of £100 will enable the most vulnerable older people in our city to receive a food box every week for 10 weeks
