City lifeline doubles in size

15 August 2016

At Home with Age UK SheffieldA Sheffield service that provides the lifeline of worry-free help at home for older people has doubled in size in just seven months.

‘At Home with Age UK Sheffield’ provides the city’s over-50s with tailored services to meet their needs – from cleaning to getting out and about, shopping to help with paperwork and admin.

The service enables older people to remain independent at home by helping them with everyday tasks which might otherwise get on top of them. In many cases, the service is paid for by relatives who have the peace of mind of knowing their loved ones are being supported to live safely at home.

Age UK Chief Executive, Steve Chu, said: “Since we began promoting this service, demand has been very high.

“We know older people are living at home for longer, which is great. But often their quality of life can be significantly improved with a bit of help to do the tasks that get more difficult as we grow older.

“Our customers like it that, unlike other providers, we send the same regular support workers, providing a familiar face every week.

“They also say they trust the service, because it is provided by a local charity whose staff are all checked and trained.”
