Pilot study finds letter wording can improve engagement

12 July 2017

Age UK SheffieldMillions of pounds of benefits are unclaimed by older people and yet with the support of Age UK Sheffield many residents of our city have welcomed the additional money we have helped them receive. Engaging older people who may benefit is becoming more challenging.

Age UK Sheffield therefore carried out a study to test if the wording used in letters can improve the success of our engagement with older people. Our pilot found that a letter with a positive and informative message about benefits take-up may be more successful at encouraging recipients to engage with the support available than a negative worded message about a specific benefit.
