Could a smart meter help you better manage your energy bills?

Smart Meter GBEvery home across Great Britain will be offered a smart meter at no extra cost, between now and 2020.

 

Smart meters are new technology that will replace the traditional gas and electricity meters that we currently have in our homes. They come with a small portable screen (an in-home display) which shows the amount of energy you are using and what it is costing in pounds and pence, as it is being used.

 

Smart meters send automatic meter readings to your energy supplier, so you will no longer need to send meter readings yourself. This means an end to estimated bills and will ensure you only pay for the energy that you use.

 

Your energy supplier will contact you when your home is eligible for a smart meter. This is not compulsory, but if you do choose to have one installed, there will be no charge for this.

Your energy supplier will contact you about a smart meter. Smart meters can only be installed by your energy supplier in a pre-arranged appointment. You will never be asked to pay for this or any related service.
