Health and wellbeing improvements have been recorded among people involved in Age UK Sheffield's Wellbeing Coordination pilot, an interim evaluation report has found.

In a sample size of 32, the average EQ-5D-5L VAS score improved from 54.5 to 57.9, while the average WEMWBS score went up from 20.4 to 23.0, with scores improving across six of the seven dimensions.

Age UK Sheffield is one of four local Age UKs on the national pilot scheme working with people to improve wellbeing, reducing the need for higher level interventions and increased cost to the health and social care system in the future. All clients receive an individual holistic assessment and support can range from help with maximising benefits to keeping connected with their community.

An Age UK Sheffield Independent Living Co-ordinator can provide support for up to three months, to help the client to address the issues that are impacting on their ability to live a happy, independent life.

User feedback has referred to the service as “one of the best phone calls I ever made,” and “it made a hell of a difference.”

Teresa Barker, Age UK Sheffield Service Delivery manager, said: “The Wellbeing Coordination pilot complements and adds value to our portfolio of services. Age UK also help to fund the Integrated Care Pilot that is aimed at older people with long term health conditions and most at risk of unplanned hospital admissions. It is really useful to be able to offer older people a range of services to meet their individual needs.”
