Advocacy volunteer and former trustee, Margaret Lewis recently celebrated 20 years of volunteering for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin.

Margaret Lewis, 79, started volunteering with our advocacy service in 1998. She moved on to help older people fill out their blue badge applications in 2003 and in 2004 she was elected as a trustee. During this time, she has made over 2000 home visits and successfully challenged Shropshire Council to simplify the blue badge process.

Margaret stepped down as a trustee at our annual general meeting, but will continue her volunteer role in our advocacy team. To celebrate her achievements staff and trustees surprised her with a presentation, flowers and an afternoon tea at the Lord Hill Hotel, Shrewsbury.

Margaret said: ‘It has been a wonderful experience to volunteer for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin and I thank all the staff, volunteers and trustees for their support over the years. The best part of volunteering for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin is the people; every person I have met in the charity has been a real joy to work with.’

Heather Osborne, Chief Executive of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, said: ‘Margaret is a remarkable lady. It’s an incredible commitment to have given twenty years of wonderful service to this charity but even more so to the hundreds if not thousands of older people Margaret has directly helped. She’s incredible!’
