Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin is inviting local businesses, school pupils, employees, volunteers and care home residents to wear something woolly and support hundreds of vulnerable older people in Telford and Shropshire.

It is a sad but real fact that, year on year, many more older people in our community struggle to keep warm, worry about their ability to pay for their heating and desperately need help. Our annual Wear It Woolly event raises much-needed funds to help local older people stay warm in winter.

Anyone can take part, just wear a woolly item of clothing for a day and donate £1 to Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin. Whether it’s your favourite bobble hat, a woolly scarf, brightly striped woolly tights or simply a woolly jumper, we welcome your support.

Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin helps local older people by offering grants to help repair heating or replace boilers and advice on how to stay warm. We also combat loneliness through the warmth of friendship with our befriending service, day centres and social activities.

Catherine McCloy, Head of Income Generation at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin said: ‘Wear It Woolly is a fun way for people to get involved in fundraising but it also has a powerful message in raising awareness of the daily struggles faced by older people in Shropshire. The more people who get involved in the campaign, the more money will be raised to support local older people, not only during those hard winter months but also through cold snaps in spring.’

If you would like to take part in Wear It Woolly, please contact the Income Generation team on 01743 233 123 to request a fundraising pack or email enquiries@ageukstw.org.uk
