With less than one week to go before the launch of a new festival in Telford, here’s how to get involved and share the things you love to do.
Launching on Monday 2 October at The Place, Oakengates, over 70 events will be on offer during the Celebrating Age Festival which runs until 6 October, right across Telford & Wrekin.
The festival will celebrate age and encourage older people to be more active, have fun and socialise. With 21.6% of Shropshire’s population over the age of 65 which is 5% higher than the national average, we are inviting you to share your photos doing activities and fun things in later life.
Whether you love to paint, bake or fish or enjoy motorbikes and climbing mountains we’d love to hear about it using the hashtag #daretodo. Post your photograph on the Celebrating Age Telford Facebook page, tweet it @CelAgeTelford or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Lynne Carney, Project Officer for the Senior Citizens Forum, said: ‘Come along to our launch event in Oakengates on Monday. There will be free refreshments and the chance to try lots of activities. Then throughout the week take part in some of the many events on offer. We also want to hear your stories, and to share your experiences. We are inviting people to post photographs of themselves doing something they love to encourage more people to do more, not less, as they age.’
Events and workshops are taking place at venues across Telford & Wrekin. You can pick up a programme from the Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin offices in Shrewsbury and Telford or at local libraries.
