It is difficult to make contact with all older people in such a large rural county as Shropshire, and Community connectors play an important role in overcoming this problem.
Our Community connectors project recruits volunteers across Shropshire to act as links between the local community and Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin. The scheme operates across Shropshire, excluding the area of Telford & Wrekin.
We aim to have a volunteer in every parish in Shropshire, to connect older people in the harder to reach rural areas and match them to the services they require.
How they work
Community connectors have the most up to date information on Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin services and how they can be accessed. They also have access to resources from Shropshire Council and they are advised of any changes that could affect the lives of older people in their community.
Each connector has a list of the factsheets and information guides produced by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin on a range of subjects from money matters to leisure and education and further help is just a phone call away.
Your Community connector
Our connectors make themselves known in a number of ways: through parish magazines, community notice boards, your local shop or pub or via one of our day centres. They may also distribute leaflets. If you cannot find out who your local connector is please contact our Shrewsbury office on 01743 233 123.
How you can help
We need Community connectors! If you are well connected within your community and can spare a couple of hours, call our volunteer recruitment team on 01743 588 570 and help support older people in Shropshire.
