With the feel of Autumn now in the air, and the new school term upon us, you may be too old to be shopping for a new pencil case but your mind may be turning to making a change and trying something new before the year is out. We have two suggestions which could make you happier and healthier!
First, you could think about trying one of our many "Ageing Well" exercise and activity sessions which run all across the county. The sessions are all listed in the new editions of our Ageing Well and Staying Steady booklets which cover Somerset and North Somerset.
You could try Movement to Music in Street, Tai Chi in Bridgwater, Dunk’s Easy Dance in Nether Stowey, Yoga in Chard, Swimming in Minehead, a Tea Dance in Wellington or Flexercise in Taunton, to name just a small sample of the sessions on offer.
But wait! Before you think “that sounds like hard work”, yes these sessions can improve balance, flexibility, co-ordination, muscle strength and help you to sleep better at night. HOWEVER, another equally good reason to join is that all the sessions are a good laugh and don’t take themselves too seriously. As they are geared for the more “mature” adult there is no-competitiveness, they are a good way to meet new people and extend your social life, and at the end you will have that satisfied glowing feeling for having taken part. All the sessions are low in price and pay-as-you-go so you could go along at any time to try a session to see if it’s for you, or dip in and out of sessions, with no need to commit to the whole term.
Alternatively, another way to get that feel-good feeling is by helping out. We are looking for Volunteers anywhere in Somerset and North Somerset to lead our popular chair-based activity sessions. No experience is necessary and all we ask is that you have a good sense of humour and can spare a couple of hours a week.
To see the leaflets showing all the sessions running across Somerset or North Somerset please scroll down to the Related Topics section or visit our Exercise & Activity Sessions page where you can also watch a clip of Maudie giving her view what the sessions are like.
