Sunderland Pride 2019

The weather at this year’s Sunderland Pride, held on the 29th September, did not dampen the spirits of the Age UK Sunderland’s staff and volunteers, who turned out in numbers to celebrate diversity in the City of Sunderland.
We splashed through the rain, singing and marching through the streets proudly holding our banner aloft, along with the rest of the revellers. The atmosphere was electric with lots of energy gushing through the crowd.
Everyone enjoyed the entertainment, the performers were in fine voice and the dance moves were well choreographed, it was as a joy to behold.
The Age UK Sunderland stall was well attended, with appearances from Sunderland Central MP Julie Elliot, the Mayor and Mayoress and many people in many guises; lots of information was shared, advice provided and numerous stories relayed - with much laughter had by all who visited. It was wonderful to speak to so many new people, we hope they had as much fun as we did.
We look forward to seeing some of the new people we met at our weekly LGBT + social network groups to continue developing conversations.
