If you are thinking of volunteering the award winning Essence Service is hosting a volunteer open day on Wednesday 7th March which will welcome anyone who is looking for a worthwhile role helping others.
The service is aims to assist people in the early stages of dementia through support and a varied programme of activities to keep people engaged and active.
The Essence service is currently seeking additional volunteers to help support the activities that take place weekly at the Sir Thomas Allen Centre in Doxford Park and other venues around the city.
Tracy Buck Director of Age UK Sunderland explained “The Volunteer Open Day will offer the chance for anyone thinking about volunteering to look around the centre and chat to staff and other volunteers about their roles, it will also give prospective volunteers the opportunity to see how volunteering can enhance the work of the service and make a big difference to the lives of those with dementia and their carers”.
Visitors on the day can also enjoy refreshments and a buffet and there will be a chance to make your mark in an art project especially designed for the event, there will also be an appearance by Elvis who will be live on stage between 11am – 12pm!
The doors will be open between 10am and 2pm at The Essence Service, Sir Thomas Allen Centre, Mill Hill Road, Doxford Park, Sunderland, SR3 2ND. A shuttle minibus will also be available to the centre from Age UK Sunderland’s Bradbury Centre in Stockton
Road leaving at 10.30, 11.30 and 12.30pm.
