At Age UK Tameside, we rely on your amazing energy and generosity to help us improve the lives of older people in our community.
Fundraising enables us to plan projects which we could not otherwise achieve – such as our dementia-friendly garden in Ashton-under- Lyne, which will be designed to enable anyone to enjoy the outdoors in a safe and welcoming environment.
Laura’s Grandad attended the Independent Living Centre, before he sadly passed away last year. Laura says, ‘I wanted to do something really amazing in his memory. I’ll be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro – it’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and when I heard about Age UK Tameside’s plans to build a dementia-friendly garden, I felt it was meant to be. My Grandad loved gardening, and he had some great times at the Independent Living Centre, so it’s a cause very close to my heart.’
Laura’s big trip will be taking place in March this year and the climb is expected to take 4-5 days, with another 2 days for the trek back down. It’s no mean feat, but Laura says, ‘I’m doing plenty of walking in preparation, and I can’t wait to go! It’ll be the trip of a lifetime, and it means a lot to me and my family to give something back to a charity that did so much for my Grandad.’
